Finished reading No God In Sight…although I felt the book went nowhere, it wasn’t the kind that is meant to go anywhere. The author just goes about from character to character etching out their thoughts before finishing where he began.
Wasn’t a great book as such…some of the characters lacked depth I felt…but a good read nevertheless… I felt though, a reasonable degree of religious mocking with the Mahant and Babua (one of the first Hindus introduced and as impotent, a tad too obvious mockery?)…but he tries to get back to some sort of peace with the Joshis…but somehow there was a heavy sense of victimization in the author’s tones and the characters’, well, characterization.
Anyway now that am off this, looks like most of the books I’ve placed a hold on will take a while. Anyone read anything interesting and easy to get, lately? 🙂
Am waiting for Interpreter of Maladies, Unaccustomed Earth, H2G2 and God of small things. Atlas shrugged was on my list but there’s too long a line for that which means I’ll have to finish it without renewals in 4 weeks! So its off the list temporarily…
Can someone suggest a breezy 200-odd page book?
Or any words about these books:
Lord of the Flies (William Gooding)
A Thousand Splendid Suns (Khaled Hosseini)
